Play Time with Reagan and Elliot

I just can’t get over how quickly these two are growing up.

Elliot has been enjoying practicing his standing and walking… and pillow wrestling:
Check out that belly:

Here’s a pic from Reagan, being self-proclaimed “Princess Reagan”.

Video: Elliot Taking 3 Steps| 11 Months Old

Elliot has been standing since 6 months old (which is early) and we’ve been wondering when he’d get up the strength and desire to try out some free-form walking. This weekend, with a step handy, he practiced with tenacity the art of standing and taking a few steps!

Here’s a sweet video of one of his very first attempts!

Tulips, GrandCherricks and Marriage Time

We just returned from a family trip up to Washington! Kevin and I wanted to do something fun (just the two of us) to celebrate our 5 year anniversary (September 2011 was 5 years)… As we thought about what we wanted our time to look like and figured in who could watch the kiddos, it became apparent that we wanted our time together to also be quality family time. Since Kevin’s folks are both now retired, we recruited them to be apart of our plan! (Not that they are looking for things to do, but time with Grandkids is always tough to come by!)

The kids did great traveling and Kevin and I had a glorious adventure driving the two hours North to the Skagit Valley once we had gotten the kids settled in with Gamma and Gampa.

In our adventure, I was sure to use my camera and we pulled over to snag some photos of this cool barn and truck.

The weather was perfect, sunny and warm all weekend. Since we were expecting rain and cold, this was a great treat! We spent time in Port Townsend and then took the Washington State Ferry to Whidbey Island. What fun!

Here’s a little glimpse of what we enjoyed on our way… a sailboat! and check out those cliffs!

Before checking into The Beach House, we checked out the tulip fields on our way. A photographers wonderland:

After a weekend without kids, sleeping in until 8am and doing whatever we pleased, the kids and the Gparents met us up at The Beach House for the week. We went to another Tulip field and Reagan and Elliot were able to enjoy the tulips too!

Here’s Gamma and Reagan walking in the tulip fields:

And, though Elliot STARTED WALKING this week, he wasn’t accomplished enough to brave mud. Kevin kept him warm in the Boba.  Here we all are, Gamma, Gampa, Reagan, Elliot, Kevin and Me:

Reagan was inspired by the big field of grass that we decided is was a great place for a twirl:

We had a blast!

Cherrick update| 9 months old

Yes, yes, I don’t come around here very often, but it’s just because everything else is NUTS and, I’m doing lots of off-the-cuff picture updates through Instagram and that mostly goes to my Facebook page. However, I haven’t forgotten you, so Hi, Mom!

In addition, my little side project, Scottsdale Moms Blog is taking up a ton of my mental capacity and computer time… So, I’ve been taking up a hobby that doesn’t involve social media or electronics. Good old fashioned, sewing. Here’s my first project, a sundress for Reagan:

My goal is to become competent enough in my sewing skills that I can make thoughtful hand-made gifts for friends without feeling like I’m apologizing for my poor craftsmanship! Plus, I’m a little bit addicted to learning new things.

In other news, Elliot is now 9 months old. He’s pulling up and is strong and sturdy. He laughs out loud regularly and is learning how to be tough. Reagan and he are playing together often, and that is the most amazing thing to see. She’ll spontaneously kiss his head (or bop him on the head), she’ll play peek-a-boo with him and say “come here I-E-yette”. It’s the best.

Here are some pictures I took of these little munchkins at the train park the other day:

They are growing up so fast! And I continue to try my best to drink in their “todayness”.

“Go Outside and Play”

Play time these days has been mostly taking place outside. Our weather has been prefection.

Reagan’s favorite new phrase is… “Mommy, can I go outside and play, please?” I love how her language is developing and love what she picks up from me. (The picture on the left was taken after Reagan asked me to tie the baby blanket around her shoulders… which created a lovely cape which she wore for a good hour.)

She’s also lately been saying things like “exuse me Mommy” (sounds like ‘scooz me’) and then she barges through or pushes me away.  Hmmm, wonder where she learned to do that?

Oh and now she’s got the hang of “Thank you” and “You’re welcome” and often uses them in funny ways – usally appropriate, but continues to come as a surprise to me. And if I forget to say “you’re welcome” after she’s said “thank you” she will fill it in herself.

My absolute favorite thing is how she’s taken an interest in learning her numbers. Colors and shapes and letters aren’t really her thing just yet, but she gets such satisfaction in counting. And, I have to assume she gets that from her dad.

Here’s a good picture of Elliot and his two front teeth popping through the bottom. He’s slept well twice in one week (meaning he didn’t wake up at all in the middle of the night!). We are hoping this mean we can get better sleep for at least the near future as long as we can keep the colds away.

And here’s our guy standing up. I think I’m going to have to invest in collard baby shirts. With him being a little bit more verticle, I can’t help but enjoy his boyness!

The Last Week of December, 2011

It has been a big week for Elliot, this last week of December.  Aside from the usual “first Christmas” milestones, this young lad has learned to sit up (he crawled first and then figured out sitting up).  He also popped a tooth.  And, if that weren’t enough change for one week, he also figured out how to pull up to a standing and has even attempted to move from one stationary structure to another (without luck as of this writing).

And, FYI, he’s still officially 7 months old and will turn 8 months on January 4th! (For those of you not keeping track of “average development” babies typically start sitting up at 8 months and crawling at 10 months – which would be just fine by me.

Reagan is really coming along – with visits by two sets of grandparents and her uncle this month, she’s learning names and new games – like counting to ten for example (not consistently, and I didn’t hear her do it, but that’s the report from reliable grandparenting sources.)

Here’s Mema with the kids, Granddad was making funny faces trying to get Reagan to smile.

Since I was sick for most of their visit, I was thankful to lean on their help with meals, help with diapers and entertainment. Since I only see my mom about twice a year, I was careful to unplug from this here computer and be as present with her and David as possible. It was so wonderful and refreshing to have so much time with my mom and see her build her own relationship with our kids.  The popular phrase from Reagan was “Where Mema go?” or “I want Granddad, please”.

Melt my heart.

Elliot| Happy Half-Birthday… Who are you?

One thing that has been occupying my thoughts lately is just who is Elliot.  He’s been around for 6 months (plus the earlier nine months kicking my right side) and he is such a mystery to me.  So, Mr. Elliot, in honor of your half-birthday, here’s what I know so far:

1. You are unpredictable and peaceful: You can be very content talking in your crib, hanging with your sister.  Sometimes you love to nap and sometimes you’d rather hang out with people.

2. You love people.  While I am your favorite person right now (you smile when you see me and cry if I don’t pick you up quickly enough), you are facinated with your sister and love to watch her run circles around the room.  And, if she gets close enough, you love to grab her hair or really anything that let’s her know you notice her.

3. You laugh and smile with abandon.  If something is funny, to you, Sir, it is very very funny and requires a smile AND a laugh.  It’s not hard to get you to smile.  You love people and will just about always smile when making eye contact with someone, even if they are new.

4. You love to move.  This is nothing new because you have wiggled and jiggled since before you were born.  You must have a great case of the wigglies on the inside because even when I am holding you, feeding you are changing you, you are kicking your feet or looking this way and that on the outside.

5. You love food. You grunt and squeal when it’s time to feed your your cereal.  You are very passionate about your meal times.

Though many of these things are just part of being 6 months old, I can see your “You-ness” coming through here and there and I’m very excited to see what other fun little bits of you are revealed in the coming months and years!

Videos: TWO Cherrick children on the move

That’s right, both kids are mobile!  With Elliot taking an early interest in getting around we have two kids on the move!

Here’s a video of Reagan getting in some rings practice at the gym.  Notice her strong grip and balance!

And here’s one of Elliot crawling at 6 months old!
